The Barns at Cooper Molera wedding for Lauren and Esteban was simple, joyful, and centered on time together. From the start, their focus was clear. They wanted a day that felt relaxed and meaningful.
They met while playing DND at Cal Poly. Over time, their friendship naturally grew into something more. Because of that, their wedding reflected who they are. It felt thoughtful, personal, and easygoing.
Getting Ready for The Barns at Cooper Molera Wedding
The morning began quietly at their hotel in Monterey. Lauren chose to do her own hair and makeup. As a result, the start of the day felt calm and unrushed. It gave her space to be present. Later, she arrived at The Barns to get into her dress. She wore a floral ballgown with a mid-length veil.
One of the most meaningful moments happened while Lauren got dressed for this Monterey Wedding. Her mom, Kim, helped her into her gown. During that moment, Kim shared a memory. She remembered helping Lauren into her Halloween costumes as a child. Because of that, the moment felt full circle. When hearing this, I felt so much happiness photographing something so meaningful to Lauren and Kim.

Meanwhile, Esteban wore a dark green suit. It felt timeless and personal to him. His mom, Denise, placed the boutonniere onto his suit jacket right before their first look. It was time for just those two to spend together, and it felt sweet seeing him with his mom and just having a fun and sweet moments together.

Thoughtful Details That Made The Day Personal
Throughout this Monterey Wedding day, small details told their story and really brought this wedding together that made it feel personable.
For example, the handkerchiefs were thrifted. You could see them throughout the gallery, in Esteban’s jacket pocket, in the hands of family during the ceremony, the reception, etc. Additionally, Esteban wore a watch that belonged to Lauren’s grandfather. He had passed away, so this meant everything and was the perfect personable touch to remember her grandfather.
To Lauren and Esteban, these details were not about trends. Instead, they reflected their values and their connection to family.
First Looks That Created More Time Together
Before the ceremony, Lauren shared a first look with her dad. It was emotional and filled with joy. We did this first look down at the lower garden of The Barns in Monterey. They spent a few moments together. Honestly, I love when the couple do first looks with their families and wedding party – because it is a great way to create some special moments before the ceremony begins.

Esteban and Lauren also shared a first look. We decided to do this next to the ceremony space. One thing I told them (and tell all my couples) is to take your time. I wanted them to just be together, talk to each other, and embrace one another. There was no rush, no posing guidance. This was a great way to have them both know they can just be themselves during this moment. It brought some special moments that came naturally and looked beautiful in the photos.

Because Lauren and Esteban did a first look, we were able to complete all the family formals list before the ceremony. Both sides of the families got all their ideal photos done, along with a list of must-haves. This meant that Lauren and Esteban were done with formal images for the day, and they could relax and enjoy their cocktail hour without having the stress of photos (and missing spending time with friends and family).
A Ceremony Under the Oak Tree
The ceremony took place on the lower lawn at The Barns. It was set beneath a beautiful oak tree. The decor was simple, with just a beautiful floral piece placed on the wooden arch. Their guests gathered close, creating an intimate atmosphere. Everyone felt included in the moment.

A Playful Cocktail Hour Experience
After the ceremony, the energy shifted into celebration. However, it still felt relaxed and fun. Since Lauren and Esteban love games, they brought that into cocktail hour. Guests could play Jenga, cards, and more.

There were even coloring books for guests to enjoy ( these might have been for the kids but lets be real, the adults enjoyed the coloring books just as much, if not more). This added a playful and welcoming touch. Because of this, guests stayed engaged. It felt less like waiting and more like connecting.

Reception Details
The reception design stayed simple and thoughtful. Every detail had a purpose. Each place setting included a name tag with a charm. The charm featured the first letter of the guest’s name. As a result, guests left with a small gift. It was both personal and cost-effective.

Throughout the evening, guests shared speeches and stories. There were first dances, toasts, and a lot of guests mingling. During this time, I gave the guests a film camera to carry around and take photos of random things. This was something Lauren and Esteban did not know, and now I will share some of those images taken here! The camera used is called Klik. Some of these are so great!

Later, Lauren and Esteban cut their cake. It was a reception highlight as they did a great job working together cutting the cake and feeding each other. As old as this tradition is, I still find this to be fun to watch and photograph!

A ‘grand exit’ at this Barns at Cooper Molera Wedding
Instead of a grand exit, the night ended naturally. Everyone stayed together, enjoying the final moments. The couple and their guests gathered, laughing and celebrating. It felt like an extension of the day. Because of that, nothing felt rushed. The ending matched the rest of their wedding.

The final feel of the wedding day
Lauren and Esteban created a day that felt true to them. Every choice reflected their values and relationships. They focused on time, connection, and meaningful details. As a result, the entire day felt intentional. From the first look to the final moments, everything had space to breathe. And because of that, it was not just a wedding. It was a full experience with the people they love.
