Wedding in Santorini

I’m Dana.
I take destination wedding photography seriously. If I’m going to book a flight and travel across the ocean for you, I should probably show you that I know what I’m talking about.

This beautifully created styled wedding in Santorini was part of a photography retreat hosted by wedding and event planner AMV Retreats (AMV Weddings). This styled wedding was created by an incredible team and part of a three-day retreat for photographers to come together, learn, and inspire. We attend these styled shoots to build connections with local vendors and gain knowledge of the Island of Santorini.

When Amanda and her team announced this retreat in late 2021 and early 2022, we were drawn to her vision board and ideas. A styled shoot is for us to gain a portfolio, show off our photography, and share the work so future couples wanting to get married in Santorini can access ideas, vendors, and more.

This styled wedding in Santorini would be one of my favorite photo albums to show off. I could not wait for it to begin and to start sharing these images on Instagram and my website.

Why choose Santorini for your wedding destination?

Many European locations, such as Italy or France, are popular for a destination wedding. However, Greece is rising to be a great destination wedding location for couples getting married.

Personally, I think there are a few reasons for having a Santorini Wedding.

  1. The food. One of the best catering experiences I have had with the local cuisine was in Santorini. Whether it’s the quality of the food, the display service, or the drinks being poured, guests love a good meal when traveling far for weddings, and this Santorini wedding venue has incredible food service.
  2. Hospitality. From the moment everyone stepped off the shuttle from the airport and into the lobby, everyone was greeted with champagne, smiles, and a warm welcome. They checked us in, let us enjoy the lobby as we greeted each other, and even had a host take our bags to our rooms for us. It was the start of what would be an incredible, luxurious stay.
  3. The views. There were many locations on site where you could have your ceremony, reception, cocktail hour event, welcome party, etc. Various combinations at Rocabella and other venues have incredible locations to have any event. Each has incredible views of the Island and the Aegean Sea.
  4. The photo locations. At Rocabella alone, there are many spots for a couple to take beautiful photos with their spouse, friends, family, etc. From the sidewalks to the trails, the patios of a hotel or resort, or even in town in Oia and sunset. The options for photos are endless and will make up for a beautiful gallery.

Wedding in Santorini

Rocabella Hotel and Spa is located in Santorini and is by far the best location on the island to get married. It has spacious rooms to host your guests and incredible spots to have your ceremony and reception. I mean, imagine this view from your ceremony. The guests at the wedding will be in awe of the view and the beauty of the island.

The infinity pool is a perfect location for your intimate wedding reception. What better way to enjoy a nice dinner than sitting beside a pool and looking out at the Aegean Sea? This is also a great location for guests to take photos with their significant others and families/friends.

The golden hour is the perfect time to take photos along the Aegean Sea for your Santorini wedding. Golden hour is the most favorite part for couples to take photos with their spouse and guests. The warm sun on the island of Santorini gives a soft glow, making the images look so warm, light, and beautiful.

If possible, I highly encourage you (the couple) to take photos up against the reception table before your guests start arriving to eat. This is so the couple can look at the design they have dreamed of and take some photos along the table. It’s truly a wonderful moment.

One way to do this is by first looking at your wedding table. You and your planner have worked hard to create something so amazing. So, you and your spouse deserve a few moments of alone time to see the work and set-up. For this, please allow five minutes of view and photo time. And ensure that a planner or staff educate the guests on not placing their stuff down at their seats.

Wedding Invitation Suite

The wedding invitation suite is a great way to share the story of your wedding. It lets the photographer be creative and assemble some incredible wedding details. Plus, it gives the designers, cake artists, and florists extra images to show off their work—something they deserve!

The stationery artist did a great job at creating such beautiful pieces. The stylist for this suite, Sophie K, gave us directive ideas and taught us how to create looks that will be perfect in any image gallery.

Wedding In Santorini

There are so many places on the Island to have a wedding, but if you are planning one in Santorini, I obviously hope you consider Rocabella Santorini outside of Oia. Santorini is perfect if you are looking for a romantic location for your guests. It has great vendor service and incredible views for your ceremony, reception, and portraits.

Santorini Wedding Photographer

My name is Dana, and I am a Wedding Photographer who loves focusing on photographing weddings in France and Santorini. I love the history and beauty of Santorini Island, and I will always cherish my experiences there. Since 2018, I have lived nationwide and photographed weddings in states such as Hawaii, Virginia, and California. I happily also focus on weddings in Europe, including France and Greece.

The style I focus on is light, joyful, and loving. I love it when my couples are true to themselves. Wedding days are never easy, and having the mindset of “things happen for a reason” and “let’s make lemonade out of lemon” is something I love that my couples do. This is why I tend to photograph weddings for couples who love traveling, enjoy anything that life throws their way, and tend to seek happiness in all things that seem “terrible”.

Vendors

Here are the Santorini wedding vendors who helped put this together! Without them, this styled shoot would not have happened. I have provided their names and website links. This way, if you are interested in hiring them for your wedding, you have what you need! While some are from the U.S., many of these wedding vendors are local to Santorini. Or, you can ship items anywhere.

Of course, if these vendors do not fit your style, I suggest googling more vendors or finding them through Instagram.
